Sumit D. Chowdhury, Ph.D.

Dr. Sumit Chowdhury is the Vice President & Partner of IBM Global Business Services. He is the Industry leader for the Communications, Media, Entertainment and Utilities industry. Prior to joining IBM, Sumit was the Chief Information Officer of Reliance Communications and CEO of Reliance Tech Services. Before joining Reliance, he was the progressively the Managing Director, Telecom Industry Leader and Country Head of BearingPoint (KPMG Consulting) in Australia and in the US. Sumit is a regular speaker in Industry conferences and appears on print and television. He advices several start-up companies across IT, VAS and services sectors. After receiving his B.Tech (EE) from IIT Kanpur, Sumit did an MS in Electronics /Communications Engineering and Ph.D in Information Systems and Management from Carnegie Mellon University. He is a Graduate Member of Australian Institute of Company Directors. Sumit was on the Board of Directors of TeleManagement Forum and also the founder of Digital Bridge Foundation – an non-profit organization helping bridge the Digital Divide in India thru promotion of One-laptop-per-child and constructivist education. He is also a member of the Telecommunications, Electronics and Security Committees of the IMC. Sumit is a professional abstract artist with his works being exhibited internationally. He is trained in Indian Music and has performed with amateur bands in India, US and Australia. He runs the marathon whenever and wherever he gets an opportunity.
