3) Managing Director - Evergreen Broking Private Limited (2000 to 2002)
4) Head Equities - Barclays BZW (1998 to 2000)
5) Managing Director - Evergreen Broking Private Limited (1992 to 1998) Evergreen Research Private Limited
6) Director - Consolidated Transporters Private Limited (1979 to 1992)
Experience and Abilities in the Finance Sector: I
promoted and ran my own broking company Evergreen Broking Private
Limited catering to the institutional segment. After India opened up to
foreign investment banks, I sold off my company Evergreen Broking to
BZW. It had been a good run as a Gold Medalist from the Bombay Stock
Exchange and as a pioneer in equity research products (Evergreen
Research). Evergreen Broking was a well regarded institutional and HNI
broking franchise but I felt the winds of change and moved with them.
When Barclays chose me as their joint venture partner, I chose the
employee format over a self owned business. The primary task was to set
up a new business in India and to create buyin from different
constituents onshore and at the Asia office in Hong Kong. I landed
thereafter at the job of Managing Director of HDFC Securities Limited,
a three way joint venture co-owned by HDFC Limited, HDFC Bank Limited
and JP Morgan Chase. We turned around a loss-making company with a
confused business model. Revenues moved smartly from US$ 0.86 million
in FY 2002 to US$ 30 million in FY 2007-2008 and negative
Profit-After-Tax from US$ -1.2 million in FY 2001-2002 to US$ 5 million
Profit-After-Tax in FY 2007- 2008. We also inculcated a values-driven
culture with strong emphasis on compliance, processes and risk.
Relationships: I have created a wealth of relationships and people
across the spectrum of finance businesses. I have been President of the
Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad Alumni Association,
Co-Chairperson of the Indian Merchant Chamber Finance Sector Committee
and have served on the Securities
Industry Institute (London), Advisory Committee. I was elected to
the Board of Bombay Stock Exchange in the year 2001. I am an active
member of the CEO Forum and have been invited to address the CFO Forum
Annual Conference. I have also been invited to speak at the Bombay
Stock Exchange, the UTI Institute of
Capital Markets and the Gujarat Investment Finance Tech City. All of this have earned me a solid business profile.
Education:
1) MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (1979)
2) Bachelors in Commerce from Sydenham College, University of Bombay (1977)
